Now in September 2015, Pope Francis was in New York to address world leaders at the United Nations about the rights of the environment, ahead of the global climate talks due to take place in Paris later that year.

Whilst Pope Francis recognises the threat of climate change, the Vatican Bank’s holdings stand at $8 trillion and unless fossil fuels are explicitly excluded, parts of these holdings will inevitably be invested in fossil fuel companies.
